Congregational Ministry Team

The purposes of the Congregational Ministry Team are to develop strategies, resources, support, and care for urban, racial/ethnic, and small congregations, to proclaim with boldness the prophetic and compassionate Word of the Lord, especially as it relates to the issues of the church and the society in which we live, and to develop strategy to expand the ministry and growth of the Church in all geographical areas of the Presbytery via coordination with the New Church Development Commission.

Mission Partnerships — Purpose: To provide financial assistance to churches within the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta for special programs or leadership needs.  The grants are typically  $2000-$5000 per year.  The grants are used for special evangelism programs, leadership development & congregational development . Grant support of congregations for 2006 = $44,500.

Presbyterian Immigrant Fellowships — Purpose: To provide support for immigrant groups from similar cultural, religious, and language backgrounds working to become a newly chartered/organized PCUSA church.  The Congregational Ministry Team approves all Immigrant Fellowships in consultation with the Tri-Presbytery Immigrant Fellowship Coordinator. Grant support of Immigrant Fellowships within the Presbytery for 2007 = $43,000—$12,000 from Synod)

Evangelism Committee Purpose: To challenge the congregations of the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta to proclaim the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ effectively as it relates to issues of church and society, provide models and resources, and develop potential partnerships.

Spiritual Nurture & Worship Resources Committee — Purpose: To promote and develop spirituality  and spiritual nurture within the life of the Presbytery and its congregations.

Multi-Cultural Christmas Concert  — “We Are One” in December 2007.  A multicultural  musical expression of Christmas by our racial ethnic congregations and fellowships with everyone invited to share in the celebration.

Stewardship Committee — To equip congregations for seasonal and year-round education about Christian giving as a spiritual practice.

Support of Atlanta Chapter, Black Presbyterian Caucus (NBPC)
Congregational Transformation  - Purpose:  To support our congregations with tools, resources and materials in the transformation process — Programs: Partners with Sacred Places; MissionInsite demographics (www.MissionInsite.com), Congregational Life Cycle, grants for transformation

Support of Smaller Congregations  - Purpose:  To be supportive of our smaller membership congregations of 100 or less in average attendance in worship  —   Programs: Spiritual Retreat for Leaders in Smaller Congregations—January 19th-20th, 2007; Association of Smaller Congregations; Synod Regional Resource Center—April 30th—May 2nd, 2007 at Epworth,
Retreat September 21st-22nd, 2007.

Linkage with the New Church Development Commission (three presbyteries—Cherokee, Greater Atlanta, Northeast Georgia)
